First Day in Como

August 24th, 2012

The Aggies had their last long bus ride today leaving Venice at 9 a.m. and reaching Como at about 1:30 p.m. local time.

With each ride in Italy from city to city, we have stopped along the highway at an Autogrill. Basically, it is a large gas station/rest area complete with restrooms, a coffee shop, a sandwich shop, a sit-down restaurant, some souvenirs, etc. Your one-stop shop along the highway. You may have seen a photo of several of the players with members of the Italian Army, this took place at an Autogrill.

Shortly after a good, quick lunch, for a group of just under 50 people, we went around a curve on the highway and were introduced to beautiful Lake Como. What a stunning view!

Our hotel is across the street from the lake and we were able to take a short walk and an even shorter ride up a mountain on a tram called the funicolare. It connects the center of Como with Brunate, a small village on a mountain at 715 meters above sea level. It was a wonderful place for great views of Lake Como.

Tomorrow we are looking forward to a boat ride across Lake Como to Bellagio, where we’re told there will be a gorgeous view of the Alps.
