What They’re Saying
Coach Phipps on Toney Hurd, Jr…
“In the open field, Toney’s a punishing tackler. He’s not very tall. With the new trend of having a lot of tall receivers, ideally you would like to have corners that are tall. But some guys play taller than they are, and Toney play’s that way. He’s great at breaking up passes. He runs well and has great hips. He’s a very confident young man that has a short memory. I think the Aggies got a really good kid in Toney Hurd.
“Toney has a great burst to the ball. He’s got dynamite in his hip pocket. When he hits you, you’re going to feel it. He’s a beast in the weight room and is very committed to it. He’s taking honors curriculum in school, and he’s going to graduate number three in his class out of 420 students. Across the board, not just athletically, he’s done everything you need to do to be a Division I football player. I think the thing that really puts him over the top is that he really wants to be a Division I player and excel at it.”
Toney Hurd Jr.:
“I think my biggest strength is that I’m a student of the game. I enjoy watching film and working on all the little things that make you the best. I stay hungry. People say that I lack size and this and that. All that does is motivate me and make me even hungrier to be the best.”
