Thanks Again for a Great 2009!
Texas A&M and the City of College Station hosted the 2009 NCAA Women’s College Cup on the weekend of December 4-6 as thousands of soccer fans and youth players flooded into the Brazos Valley. Meanwhile, Emily Peterson was named the winner of the Lowes Senior CLASS Award on a fun, yet chilly weekend in Aggieland
I hope that all of the folks who visited Aggieland last weekend for the College Cup enjoyed our community. I felt terrible for everyone who came to town looking for our typical warm weather. A Nordic blast swept down from the Rocky Mountains and caught all of us by surprise, especially when snow flurries fell on Friday afternoon!
The weather was CRAZY! This was just the third snow I can remember in my 17 years at A&M!
I also hope that folks enjoyed the restaurants that I recommended. I received several emails from visitors from different parts of the country who seemed appreciative of the advice.
Peterson Wins Senior CLASS Award!
Congratulations to Emily Peterson for being singled out of every senior women’s soccer player in America and receiving the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award.
A third of the selection process for this award was done through online voting from fans. So, I’d like to thanks everyone who supported Petey and voted daily! Again, the Aggie Network showed their incredible support for our players.
I’ve said this many times before, but Emily is very special. I’ve been spoiled for the past 5 years while she was a player for me. She is a great scholar, player, teammate, and citizen – simply special, very special! I am blessed to have had Emily at a soccer player on my team.

Another Champion Crowned in Aggieland
Congratulations to the University of North Carolina for winning the 2009 NCAA Women’s College Cup, hosted by all of us at Texas A&M. The Tar Heels have won the National Championship 20 times, but this was the first time they’ve won it in the 3 times we’ve hosted the Cup.
UNC upset undefeated Stanford 1-0 in the National Championship game.
New Attendance records!
Despite unusually cold temperatures, we set a new attendance records!
- On Sunday, the official paid attendance for the National Championship game was 8,536 – a new stadium record!
- We had a total of weekend attendance of 16,562 (we had 15,910 in 2007, and 13,279 in 2005) That is 500 more than last year’s College Cup in Cary, NC (where they had a local team –UNC- in the tourney)
A&M vs. UNC in 2010 Opener
I am nearly finished with the 2010 Texas A&M Soccer Schedule.
At this time, I do know most of our opponents, and I think our season ticket holders will be excited about the quality opponents who’ll be playing in Aggieland next fall. We will open the regular season on August 20th against our old rivals from Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
But the Tar Heels are not the only headliners who’ll appear on our 2010 home schedule. Other NCAA Tournament teams coming to the Aggie Soccer Stadium include: Michigan State, Virginia Tech, Davidson, Oklahoma State, and Washington State. Plus, we’ll see Big 12 rivals Colorado, Texas Tech, Baylor, and OU on our home schedule.
I still have a couple open dates that I’m trying to finalize, and will be sure to post the schedule sometime soon in January around the same time I release our spring exhibition schedule.
Give Camp for Christmas!
If you are looking for a GREAT Christmas gift for a soccer player in your family, then I hope you’ll seriously think about securing a spot in the Texas A&M Soccer Camp this summer.
You can go to www.aggiesoccercamp.com right now to check out the summer dates. We will soon be ready for registrations for our 2010 sessions.
This year we are adding a Competitive Day Camp, which is specifically designed for club and Academy aged players. Additionally we’ll be offering overnight sessions for Advanced players and teams!
We are rolling Camp Tuition back to 2008 prices in 2010! And, you can expect to see many of the same great coaches in Aggieland that have helped make the Texas A&M Soccer camp the very best college camp in America.
C’ya Next Year
Final exams begin at A&M on Thursday 10th of December, which means the holidays are nearly upon us. So, I’ll be taking a little break from blogging during the holidays.
I’m very thankful for all the great support of our fans as well as the wonderful experiences I’ve had with my players, coaches, and support staff in 2009. I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year.
Gig ‘em! –Coach G
