I am proud of our community and what it stands for, and that respect for our neighbors grew even more on August 9th when thousands of folks came to the Aggie Soccer Stadium to help raise money to cover the medical expenses of little Alexis Verzal.

Every penny raised at this year’s bash (more than $35,000 so far) will go toward paying her medical expenses. Alexis is the 1 year old daughter of Brandon and Tiffany Verzal, who’s recovering from brain trauma injuries incurred at her Day Care center in April. Her mom and dad have been members of the Texas A&M athletic department – running 12th Man Productions.

We are all praying for Alexis’ full recovery from her terrible injuries, but we know it’s going to be a long fight. That means lots of long treatments and lots of medical expenses.

I started the Coach G Foundation a few years ago as my way of helping specific families in our Aggie community. These families had been devastated with immense medical bills due to some terrible disease striking a family member.

In 2005 we helped raise tens of thousands of dollars to aid the Spisak family after Keith had been diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Then about 14 months later we helped raise tens of thousands of dollars to offset medical bills for the Raulerson family after Tacey had been diagnosed with a terrible cancer and had both of her eyes removed to try and slow down the ravages of the disease.

It’s a fact that the Aggie family has always been there to lend a hand for members of Texas A&M’s extended family. Well, this is another time when I’m hoping you can help in whatever way you can to help this little girl and her Aggie family.
