Saturday Success!

The Charity Bash was a BIG SUCCESS

Thank you to everyone that took part in the Coach G Charity Bash this past Saturday night. An estimated crowd of nearly 2,000 was reported to have been at the Aggie Soccer Stadium, and that helped raise over $11,000 on the raffles alone. We still don’t have all the total numbers in yet – Pizza Hut is donating all money from their sales of Stuffed Pizza rolls in Bryan-College Station, and we’re still accepting online donations through our charity page (you can click on the charity tab at the top of this page).

It was very cool to have Alexis and her mom and dad in Aggieland for the event. But I have to admit that when the videos of Alexis’ struggle was played on the 12th Man TV in the stadium that I had a hard time keeping myself composed. This is such a tragic story and it still kills me to see what the Verzals have gone through, but it inspires me when I know how far Alexis has already come.

It was also very cool that Garth Brooks and Tricia Yearwood made an appearance at the Bash. They are absolutely FIRST CLASS in the way they greeted people, posed for photos, and showed just how down to Earth and genuinely great people they (and Garth’s entire family) truly are.

Maroon & White Kicked Off Season Right

The Maroon & White game was also a big success. It was great to have the opportunity to get our team into an inter-squad scrimmage in front of such a great crowd. About the only complaint I heard after the event was that people weren’t sure who to yell for!

It’s always hard to fully evaluate ourselves in an inter-squad set up, since everyone is already real familiar with the players they’re competing against. Also, since we’re all on the same team (for example – some of the tackles are typically not as hard), you can’t always see exactly how players will be in big games during the season. But, I was pleased with the overall play.

All of the freshmen played their first game in an Aggie uniform, and everyone played significant time in the game.

Four different players scored and many players made big impacts on the success of the match. So, now that we’re in Florida preparing for our final preseason match, we’ll be able to use video from the Maroon & White game to teach with.

Raffle Winners will be posted on the spotlight article later this week

We will be sure to post the names of all the winners of the Raffle Prizes this week in my spotlight article, so please be sure to keep checking back to
